randyI've never seen this before. Neil held his own with Bob. Who knows. Maybe they could've been the next Martin and Lewis or Abbott and Costello. This was cool!
Jurg BolliVery funny.
Chuckster01What a great way to start my Sunday. Thank you for posting.
KiteThat is great. The receptions he got were terrific. Seemed slightly rehearsed but proved Neil Armstrong could adapt to situations that were not particularly in his comfort zone. Always comes through as a thoroughly decent human being.
Cozmosis22Thanks for posting that and remember watching it way back when. That clip comes from a 90-minute television special honoring NASA's 25 Anniversary. It was titled "Bob Hope's Salute to NASA: 25 Years of Reaching for the Stars" and it aired on September 19, 1983.

A number of other astronauts appeared as well. There was Alan Shepard, Wally Schirra, Walt Cunningham, Donn Eisele, Guy Bluford, Sally Ride and Robert Crippen.

Along with the great Bob Hope there were celebrity appearances by John Denver, Marie Osmond, Perry Como, and Douglas Fairbanks Jr.

It was billed as a comedy, musical variety show and was broadcast on a Monday night via NBC. It was directed by Stan Harris and produced by Hope Enterprises.

Ken HavekotteLoved it! I had almost forgotten that Neil was at Bob Hope's side during some of his USO tours entertaining our troops.
canyon42Am I the only one who thinks Bob Hope's voice sounds an awful lot like Frank Borman's?
rgarnerThis is my new favourite thing!
GilbertThank you for posting that. I remember seeing it all those years ago.
HeadshotThanks for the memories.
mach3valkyrieI watched it on TV and recorded it on Beta. Thanks for posting!
Glint"We welcome you with open arms." @ 08:26

Must have been scripted, but was still a well timed great response by Armstrong.

MCroft04That is absolutely fantastic. I was privileged to hear Neil give three talks, and they were 100% professional and some of the best talks I have ever had the fortune to hear. The man was a great speaker, and then some! Mark and Rick, you must be so proud!!!
BlackarrowI noticed this previously but have only now watched it. What a treat! Happy memories of two great men — and while you would expect Bob Hope to deliver funny lines, it was a great pleasure to see Neil Armstrong handling comedy quite deftly. Wonderful.
dss65Finally got around to watching this myself. In a sense, it is comforting that we can have such warm memories from a time that was as chaotic as the present. Those are two men that I will always miss.
